The Lovers; reversed:
What are your intentions when it comes to love?
Here we see angels, and what looks like it could be paradise. The white flowers in the woman's hair symbolize the Divine. The pair lean into each other, a consensual union representative of choices made. The arrow pointing down symbolizes this union being blessed by the Divine, the untouched apple is symbolic of temptations ignored. This card represents sacred relationships of the heart, and speaks of what it takes, and what one goes through, to keep them.
In a reversed position; this card asks us o examine the reasons behind why we stay in union with others. Love so often gets mistaken and mixed up with other emotions. Are you with someone; or are you really with the idea you have formed of that someone? Do you stay with a loving and loyal heart; or are you only with them because of what they can provide for you? The Lovers reversed asks you to ponder your actual intentions in regards to those you love, or claim to love. When this card comes up in a reading, it generally symbolizes emotional pain surrounding a close relationship, be it lack of real emotions or lack of empathy. It is time to ask yourself if you are being true in love, or if you are merely convincing yourself that you are.
We all deserve real, lasting, string-less love that is pure and genuine. One should never settle for anything less. This card is a gentle reminder of that, and a reminder that you also be gentle and 100% supportive of those you love... and if you find it is you that is lacking emotion, or empathy, or putting conditions on you so-called love; then the right thing to do is to let them go.
